OMHA is dedicated to the development of young goalies within our association. As such, we are excited to be moving forward on a few new goalie initiatives in 2018/2019.
- OMHA Goalie Handbook - OMHA has created a goalie development handbook. This document is a resource for goalies, goalie parents and coaches and covers a number of topics about the goaltender position. The OMHA goalie development handbook can be found by clicking here.
- WPG Sunday night goaltender clinic - OMHA is once again offering the Sunday night goaltender clinic through World Pro Goaltending. It is set to begin on October 28, 2018, please click here to register.
- OMHA Goalie Coach Clinic - OMHA is hoping that each and every OMHA team (novice through midget) is able to dedicate one coach to also being the part time goalie coach for their team. This coach should be a point of contact for the goaltenders, have some basic knowledge and will spend some time working on goalie specific movements and drills in practice with the goaltenders to help with their development. To help these coaches with this initiative OMHA has set up an evening session (2.5 hours) to help train the coaches on what they need to know so they feel more comfortable in this role. These sessions were held on Oct 24th and 25th at the Piper Arena. Please click here to view the goalie drill document from Hi-Tek showing many of the drills discussed at this goalie coach clinic.
- Goaltender Mentor - for those interested, OMHA is offering the opportunity for our younger goaltenders to partner with an older more experienced goaltender mentor from within OMHA. The partnership would allow for the older goaltender to get to know the younger goaltender and work with them at some of their practices. The goal would be to partner the Novice age goalies with a Peewee mentor, Atom with a Bantam mentor and Peewee with a Midget mentor. If your goaltender is interested in seeking a mentor to help them please contact email@example.com. Please include your goaltenders name, team and division, coach contact and briefly touch on their experience or time in the position so we can look to match them up accordingly.
If you need any info, help or support with respect to the goaltender position and development please don't hesitate to contact the OMHA goaltender liaison at firstname.lastname@example.org.
